Native Linux Games

We develop all our games on Ubuntu Linux, using our in-house, C/C++, cross-platform HCE game engine. For cross-platform GPU support, HCE uses the low-overhead Vulkan graphics API.

All our native Linux games are built with the Steam-Runtime SDK and run inside Steam for Linux which is officially supported on the most recent version of the free Ubuntu Linux OS with the Unity, Gnome, or KDE desktops.

All our Linux builds should work seamlessly on the SteamOS based Steam Deck handheld gaming PC.

HCE also compiles Steam builds for Windows 10 & 11.

We also plan to support SteamVR compatible VR headsets on Linux and Windows in the near future.

HCE Game Engine

All Poqasoft games run on our custom, in-house, HCE game engine. We also use the SDL library for cross-platform windowing/audio/input abstraction. Game and engine code is 99% C.

Music & SFX

For music production we mainly use real instruments which are recorded and mixed in-house with open-source audio production tools such as Ardour and plugins such as the Neural Amp Modeler.

Game Demos

Historically, most video games had a demo version, but these days publishers tend to eschew demos for game trailers and heavy marketing. However, we believe that you should be able to try before you buy, so we always offer big demo versions of our games.

Money Back Guarantee

We believe in the quality of our games. If you're still not satisfied within one year of purchasing we'll give you a full refund, no questions asked.

No DRM

All our games are free from DRM (Digital Rights Management) technologies. However, for games purchased though Steam (Linux or Windows builds), Steam specific features such as online leaderboards and achievements will not work if the game is run outside of the Steam client.

Additionally, Steam for Linux games may not work correctly or at all if run outside the Steam client as they are dependent on and built for the Steam-Runtime, (a controlled container-like environment for Steam on Linux games). Running Steam for Linux games outside of the Steam-Runtime may fail due to missing system library dependencies in the host Linux distribution.

Technical Support

We take after-sales support very seriously and won't abandon you after you've made your purchase. If you need help please visit the Support page.

Privacy

Data collection:
Poqasoft games do not collect any personal data when you play them. The only data that is generated is a log.txt file on your PC which logs the game's startup and shudown process (needed for support requests). This log file only contains hardware information about your PC - no personally identifiable information is recorded.

DLC

We do not offer any DLC (Downloadable Content). Any further game updates would typically be for additional music and levels, player options like extra weapons, ships and characters, also bug fixes, quality improvements and new hardware support. All updates are free forever for new and existing players.

P2E, Crypto, NFTs & Lootboxes

P2E (Play-2-Earn) is a business model where players can earn or purchase unique in-game objects as NFTs (non-fungible tokens based on blockchain technology), whilst playing games. As earning something of value or buying a speculative asset is the primary objective, it's analogous to work or investing. We believe that games should be played purely for entertainment and challenge, so there will never be a P2E, NFT, Crypto or Blockchain based game from Poqasoft. The same applies to lootboxes as these "are structurally and psychologically akin to gambling".

Mobile Games

We do not make games for smart-phones or tablets, focusing instead on platforms with dedicated game controllers such as Desktop Linux and Windows PC, Steam Deck and VR.

AI Assets

Everything in our games (artwork, audio and code) is created in-house by Poqasoft. We do not use third party assets or anything generated by AI machine learning. All artwork is created from scratch using open-source tools such as Gimp and Blender.

Free Steam Keys

Developers and publishers often give away free Steam keys to individuals who can help promote their games via reviews. Unfortunately, this system has been abused and free keys often end up on key reseller sites. Because of this situation we do not supply free review keys on request.
